Function & Coordination - Level 3

In level (2) most clients are able to transfer using lower limbs for support and can start to stand without support. However there is a lack of function and coordination to any of the movement created. This is a difficult transition to master and not all clients are able to get fulfill this level. Once tone and spasm have been broken down and re-learnt more control can occur, the more controlled movement there is the easier it becomes, because the movement is easier, activity levels increase and the client continues to improve. However level (3) is, does not happen in distinct stages, for example a client may have one leg more functional than the other, because of this, we work the central nervous system constantly as a whole so that reorganization continues to occur. In level (3), posture and biomechanics are looked at more closely, gait patterns are much easier to ‘fix’ before compensation movements for example ‘hip hitching’ when walking become too severe.
